Facebook will launch a video creation app aimed at influencers as it looks to further embrace its creator community and provide them with a genuine alternative to YouTube.
Due to launch later this year, Facebook’s video creation app will only be available to verified accounts on the social network – the likes of journalists, celebrities and significant online influencers. This aspect isn’t a huge revelation in itself though. The current Facebook Mentions app is also only available to verified accounts.
Giving details about the new app at the “Future of Facebook Video” panel at VidCon last week, Facebook product director Daniel Danker said: “It has never been a better time to be a creator on Facebook.
“With Facebook we can connect and create community with your audience and tell stories that are social, personal, and authentic.”
He added that the new video creation app will mesh with Facebook Live and provide users with creativity suite of tools which can be used to create intros and outros to live videos, as well as frames, custom stickers and more.
It will also feature a community tab where influencers can more easily connect with their followers across Facebook, Messenger and Instagram. There will also be an insights section where creators can more clearly see who their followers are and how they are consuming the videos they create.
Despite the fact Facebook’s new video creation app will only be available to influencers, it does highlight how much time and energy Facebook are putting into growing their native video offering.
Done right, video content has the power to resonate with audiences in a way that other updates simply can’t.
As a small business owner or freelancer, have you tried utilising Facebook Live video to engage with your audience? If not, why not? You’ve got nothing to lose! Even a simple video showing people around your store and introducing them to your team is a great starting point.
