Getting Your Social Media Image Sizes Right

We’ve all done it. You’ve created a killer image for one of your social media posts, but when you upload it and hit publish, the image doesn’t quite look how you’d planned. The social network has squished it, stretched it, resized it and now all your hard work creating the image has gone down the drain.

But that doesn’t have to be the case.

The best way to ensure your social media images appear how you want them to is to create them the right size from the outset. The frustrating thing, though, is that each social network has different image size requirements.

Fortunately, there are already many blog posts out there that cover the various image size requirements for all of the major social networks. Two of the most comprehensive are:

To save you some time, we’ve compiled this quick reference list for image sizes for each of the major social networks. Please note that all sizes are in pixels and are width x height.

In general:

Facebook

  • Cover photo – 851 x 315
  • Profile picture – 180 x 180
  • Highlighted image – 1200 x 717
  • Shared image – 1200 x 630
  • Shared link thumbnail – 1200 x 627

LinkedIn

  • Background image – 1500 x 425
  • Profile image – 400 x 400
  • Career cover photo – 974 x 330
  • Standard logo – 400 x 400
  • Square logo – 60 x 60

Twitter

  • Header image – 1500 x 500
  • Profile image – 400 x 400
  • In-stream image – 440 x 220

Google+

  • Profile image – 250 x 250
  • Cover image – 1080 x 608
  • Shared image – 497 x 373
  • Shared link – 150 x 150

Pinterest

  • Profile image – 165 x 165
  • Pin sizes – 238 pixels wide (no height limit)
  • Board display – 222 x 150 (large thumbnail) & 55 x 55 (small thumbnail)
