Content marketing is all about creating value for your audience and establishing yourself as a go-to source of information in your respective industry. That’s why some of the most popular types of blog post are the ‘How To’ kind which provide instructional steps to help people with a particular task.

If you’ve ever created such posts then you’ll know that they are usually well received and garner a fair amount of likes and comments on social media. But did you know that as well as reading the ‘How To’ blog posts you promote on social media, internet users are also constantly searching Google for such content?

According to new data released by the world’s most popular search engine, “how to…” searches have increased by a whopping 140% since 2004, and it’s content relating to ‘How To’ fix things, in particular, that people search for the most. In fact, whether it’s how to fix a light bulb, washing machine or even a toilet, “how to fix…” searches are consistently near the top of the list of most common queries, year after year, around the world.

Writing in a blog post, Google data editor Simon Rogers said the search giant had teamed up with award-winning designer Xaquín González Veira, who has previously worked with The Guardian, National Geographic and the New York Times, to create a fun, interactive website that celebrates ‘”how to…” searches.
