Have you tried Instagram Stories? It’s proving to be a winning feature for Instagram and parent company Facebook since its launch in August of last year, according to a new report from TechCrunch.
In fact, it seems Instagram Stories has actually managed to lure users away from the comfort of Snapchat’s similarly-named offering – Snapchat Stories.
Instagram Stories looks, feels and works in exactly the same way as Snapchat Stories, which is a core component of the ephemeral messaging app.
The TechCrunch report claims that Snapchat has seen a 15-40% decline since Instagram Stories launched last year. That’s a substantial drop in such a short time, especially when you consider Instagram’s view counts have been steadily rising and engagement-to-follower rates literally soaring.
Many online celebrities have also reported drops in viewing figures since Instagram Stories came onto the scene. For example, Vine “star” Hannah Stocking said her Snapchat Stories views fell from 150 thousand to 90 thousand between August 2016 and January 2017. This is despite her presence on other social platforms, such as YouTube and Instagram skyrocketing over the same period.
In just six short months, Instagram Stories has managed to attract a cool 150 million daily users. That’s the same number Snapchat reported back in June 2016 – a figure it has yet to surpass.
Influencers have embraced Instagram’s feature with open arms too. Those that were too late to jump on the Snapchat bandwagon suddenly found they could utilise an almost identical feature through their existing Instagram audiences.
The fact that Facebook is also currently testing a similar stories feature for its Messenger app doesn’t bode well for Snapchat either. Facebook Stories, as it’s known, will be available on mobile devices in the near future.
