Are you using Facebook videos as part of your social media marketing strategy? If not, perhaps you should be in light of new statistics recently released by the social networking giant.
According to Facebook, 100 million hours of video are watched on the platform every single day and approximately 500 million users watch at least some video each day.
“Video is an important part of the Facebook experience, and continuing to invest here is important for allowing people to share and consume some of the most engaging content,” said the firm’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, during the recent earnings call.
However, what’s more intriguing from a digital marketing perspective is that Zuckerberg also spoke about a “dedicated place” where Facebook users can do nothing else but watch videos. Imagine the possibilities that such a feature would present to digital marketers!
Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg also touched on how video ads are gaining momentum on the platform, with Microsoft choosing to run them on both Facebook and Instagram as part of its recent Halo 5 video game launch.
“They understood that people watch video differently in mobile news feed than on TV, so they created videos to capture audience attention in the first three seconds even without sound,” said Sandberg.
The Microsoft video ad campaigns generated more than 380 million impressions and 49 million video views, which raised purchase intent in the US by 10 points.
Sandberg echoed her CEO’s comments regarding the importance of video on Facebook going forward, saying: “We have 500 million people watching video a day. And the fact that so much video is being consumed on our platform gives us room for an ads business to grow because we want the formats to match.”
But don’t think it’s just the big brands with their multi-million dollar marketing budgets that are utilising Facebook videos for advertising purposes. Facebook said that SMBs also uploaded 1.5 million videos – both paid and organic – in the last month alone.
