First of all, make sure you have all your relevant business details to hand before heading over to the Google My Business website and beginning the process.

For verification purposes, Google will send a postcard to your registered business address. It will have a verification code on it which you can use to verify that the address you have given is indeed yours and fully activate your Google My Business account.

Now it’s up to you to add all the necessary information and make your business listing stand out.

Here are a few tips to get the most out of Google My Business:

  • Customise your listing – Nobody wants to see a default page. Add your business logo, some pictures of your store, some pictures of your staff, etc.
  • Tag yourself correctly – It’s vital for SEO purposes that you tag your business correctly. Choose your main business category carefully and add some sub-categories too.
  • Don’t forget unusual opening times – Chances are your business opens the same time each day and is open on the same days of the week. However, this might change around holidays, such as Christmas and the New Year. This is why you should specify any holiday opening times.
  • Get some reviews – Reviews are crucial for helping to build your reputation and showing people how wonderful you are as a business. Simply ask your customers to review you on Google. It will help your listing no end.
